Summer Camps:

* All camps conducted 100% in Spanish. No previous Spanish required.

1. Architecture & Design: Students will explore iconic Spanish, Latin American and local architecture to learn how architects design spaces, what tools they use and how their work impacts our lives. Through cooperative teamwork, creative problem-solving and design thinking, students will solve design challenges and make models using sketches, models, technology and art materials.

2. Basketball & Sports Skills: Students will learn the basic elements of basketball, including passing, dribbling, defense and, of course, shooting! They will learn the proper mechanics and rules of the game as they practice proper ball handling, sportsmanship and teamwork in a high-energy setting. Each day will include warm-up, stretching, indoor and outdoor activities, obstacles course, themed games, and team play.

3. Biology Lab: Students will explore cell biology and the properties of living organisms. With a variety of hands-on experiments, interactive games, authentic projects, engaging activities and helpful videos, students will learn about the structure and function of cells. Students will observe cells through a microscope and conduct experiments to learn how living things grow and thrive.

4. Book Club: Students will read and explore books through popular titles. They will participate in imaginative and hands-on activities which bring the stories to life, along with creative writing, games and word puzzles. Reading together, students will develop critical language arts skills like reading comprehension, character development and vocabulary acquisition in a fun, collaborative environment.

5. Chemistry Corner: Students will explore the basic building blocks of chemistry. With a variety of hands-on experiments, interactive games, authentic projects, engaging activities and helpful videos, students will learn about atoms, molecules, protons, electrons and other fun facts. In this camp, the students will also investigate and experiment to understand elements and the periodic table.

6. Instrumental Dance: In this class, students will study lyrical dance using props like fans, streamers, flags and shawls. The students will focus on creativity, self-expression and rhythmic movement through choreography and instrumental music.

7. Latin American Art: Students will explore various Latin American peoples and culture through creative, hands-on art activities. Incorporating drawing, painting, sculpture and more, they will also apply line, shape, color, texture, form, value and space to their creations.

8. Latin American Murals: Students will explore the elements of art through the works of famous muralists like José Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera and David Siqueiros, not to mention contemporary, local and youth artists. Students will investigate and analyze artistic design, color choice and visual composition. They will also apply line, shape, color, texture, form, value and space to create their own mural.

9. Math Minds: Students will participate in a comprehensive review of mathematical concepts, with an emphasis on hands-on manipulatives and problem solving, in a fun, energetic environment. They will practice number facts using games, techniques and apps, while developing problem-solving skills in real-life situations. Fractions, geometry, counting money and telling time are just some of the topics covered.

10. Origami Workshop: Students will learn the ancient, mindful art of Origami as they transform paper into creative, interesting shapes like animals, plants, flowers and more. They will practice math and science as they learn to read Origami designs and understand the geometry at the heart of the classic designs, all while practicing their listening and sequencing skills.

11. Poetry Circle: Students will read and explore various forms of lyrical and humorous poetry with a focus on rhythm, rhyme and figurative language. They will develop their creativity and confidence as writers reading and writing their own verse. Together, students will grow critical language arts skills like reading comprehension, creative writing and vocabulary acquisition in a fun, collaborative environment.

12. Robotics Challenge: Students will explore robots in all of their sizes, shapes and levels of complexity. They will investigate robots in their everyday lives, with a focus on the power of robotics and engineering. Independently and in teams, students will experiment, create and build robots to develop mechanical and design thinking.

13. Soccer & Sports Skills: Students will learn the building blocks of the sport, with emphasis on basic rules, movement, passing and receiving, and other offensive and defensive skills. The day will include games, drills, sportsmanship and teamwork. To improve strength and flexibility, each day will include warm-up, stretching, indoor and outdoor activities, obstacles courses and themed games.
